Tucson Democrat Raul Grijalva offers his political rival, Nick Pierson, a tour of Congressional District 3 in a nine-minute, narrated ad. Pierson, a Republican, lives in neighboring Congressional District 2.

With more than $109,000 in his campaign coffers, Rep. Raúl Grijalva could have made a slick ad that pointed out that his Republican rival doesn't live in Congressional District 3.

Instead, Grijalva posted a nine-minute tour of Congressional District 3 from inside his car, narrating as he drove through parts of the district.

"My opponent Nick doesn't live in the district, so I thought we'd give him this travelogue and show him parts of the district he knows nothing about," Grijalva tells the cameraman.

Pierson, who was born in Nogales and has lived in southern Arizona his entire life, had no comment about the video when reached by phone Tuesday night.

Currently, Pierson lives in neighboring Congressional District 2.

Under federal law, Pierson does not need live in the district to run for the office, but would have to move if elected to Congress next month.

In the video, Grijalva drives past the home he grew up in, several southside murals and offers advice where to get something to eat - Oasis Fruit Cones and Pat's Chili Dogs - as well as talking about recent accomplishments in the district.

He continues to narrate pointing out Tucson City Councilwoman Regina Romero's office - "She is doing a great job - as well as a house he wished he had bought when he first got married.

"If I had the money," Grijalva says as he drives by the house in Menlo Park.

The Tucson Democrat also offers a few digs at his rival, including when he drives past the Pima County Jail.

"Hey, Nick! There is the Pima County Jail. A place I bet you'd like to see me in," Grijalva adds.

Grijalva wraps up the lengthly video by attempting to drive to Pierson's home, only to be stopped at the entrance to the gated community.

"It is a gated community, good for you," Grijalva says.

Grijalva and Pierson will debate live in the Arizona Public Media studios on Wednesday night.

The hour-long debate, in partnership with The Arizona Daily Star and KJZZ, will be streamed live at azpm.org starting at 7 p.m.
