A 16-year-old boy was killed Friday after falling several hundred feet down Carr Canyon, officials said.
At about 3 p.m., the Cochise County Sheriff's Office received reports of an accident at the falls, which is located south of Sierra Vista, said Carol Capas, a sheriff's office spokeswoman.
Sheriff's deputies, along with search and rescue, Fry Fire Department and U.S. Forest Service personnel responded to the scene. The sheriff's office helicopter and a Border Patrol helicopter were also used to assist in the rescue, Capas said.
At the scene, officials located a group of juveniles near the top of the falls, which consisted of two 16-year-old girls and a 9-year-old boy. The girls told deputies that one of them had slipped near the top of the falls and the 16-year-old boy, Jaidee Austin, helped her before slipping himself and falling down the falls, Capas said.
Medical personnel were able to reach Austin and pronounced him deceased. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
