Sun Tran strike

Sun Tran mechanic Josh Garzelloni waves to a motorist’s supportive honk while he pickets with the Teamsters Local 104 during a strike along South Park Avenue between Ajo Way and Irvington Road.

Sun Tran strike: Day 16

The duration: The strike has passed the record for the longest ever. In 2001, the workers were on strike for 12 days. Teamsters Local 104 is holding a rally at 4 p.m. today, at Ronstadt Transit Center, 215 E. Congress St.

Negotiations: Sun Tran spokeswoman Kandi Young said the management continues to work with a federal mediator to try to schedule talks with the union. But Teamsters spokesman Andy Marshall called it lip service in a news release statement earlier this week.

Service: Buses will not run this weekend. Limited service is available weekdays on routes 3, 4, 8, 11, 16, 18, 25 and 29.

Sun Tran hopes to add additional routes soon, Young said, but she couldn’t say when.

The Sun Link streetcar, Sun Van and Sun Shuttle services are running as usual.
