Ajo station Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted sex offender Thursday, after the man was apprehended illegally entered the United States, officials said.
While agents were processing 29-year-old Raul Cano-Garcia, a Mexican national, they ran a records check and learned he'd been convicted in California for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.
Cano is being detained in federal custody pending his prosecution for criminal immigration violations, the release said.
