Tucson border agents arrested a previously deported man Friday who was convicted in 2001 of attempted murder, officials said.
Samuel Balbodinos-Borja, 37, was found in the desert north of Sasabe and taken to the Tucson station for processing, Rob Daniels, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman, said in a news release.
Agents ran a criminal background check on Balbodinos-Borja and learned he was convicted of attempted murder in Florida in 2001 and deported in 2013, after he completed his prison sentence, Daniels said.
Balbodinos-Borja will remain in federal custody while he's prosecuted for re-entry as an aggravated felon, Daniels said.
