A driver was killed Monday in a fiery crash near a trailhead at the end of East Speedway, authorities say.
The single-vehicle crash happened just before midnight when the unidentified driver sped through the end of the road near Douglas Spring Trailhead. The vehicle struck multiple plants and a fence as it traveled across a desert area before coming to a stop and igniting in flames, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
The driver's body was found inside the burning vehicle, the release said.
The investigation continues.
