Girl Scout cookies.

It’s cookie time for Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona.

But hold that glass of milk: Samoas, Thin Mints and other favorite confections will take on a grown-up flair— and give new meaning to happy hour — with Cookies and Cocktails at 6 p.m. Thursday at The Playground, 278 E. Congress St.

“We decided we wanted this to be about getting our friends together and having a ‘Happy Hour for a Cause.’ It is just for all the people who support girls and want to let them know that they care and they back them up and that their voice matters,” said Coco Horner, director of community relations and events with Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona.

The fundraiser will feature light appetizers, craft beers, cookie-and-wine pairings, giveaways and games. The highlight will be cookie-themed desserts created by chefs from eight Tucson restaurants: Boca Tacos y Tequila, Brother John’s Beer, Bourbon & BBQ, The Hub Restaurant & Ice Creamery, Kingfisher Bar & Grill, Feast, Prep & Pastry, Bottega Michelangelo, and Nook.

“We have this great product and everyone loves our cookies, but we have amazing chefs and restaurants in Tucson that will turn the cookies into something even more fantastic, if you can imagine that,” said Horner.

Proceeds from the event will also be used for innovative social impact programming.

The programs— which often utilize college-age students as instructors for leadership and life skills classes — serve students in underserved communities including juvenile detention centers, foster car placement, refugee communities and more than a dozen low-income schools citywide.
