Mr. Eddie's Storytime

Ongoing library programs include storytime, like this session at the Nanini Library. When school ends for the summer, the library system will offer more learning opportunities.

Youth are invited to participate in more than 300 free events in the Summer Learning Program sponsored by the Pima County Public Library.

The free program is from May 21 to July 16. On the first day, children can pick up a Summer Learning game board and read 20 minutes a day. A child’s progress can be marked with stickers, organizers said.

Starting May 31, youngsters can visit any library to pickup a free book while supplies last during that week.

Teens are encouraged to participate in events, such as 3D design, coding, sewing and yoga. Each time teens attend programs, they will be eligible to win prizes. Participants also will receive certificates showing the skills they have learned, said organizers.

Among the events are:

  • Family Fiesta at Tanque Verde Swap Meet, 4100 S. Palo Verde Road, May 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Festivities include crafts, the bookmobile, Curious George and live-action stories.
  • Field Day at a sports field next to Wheeler Taft Abbett Sr. Library, 7800 N. Schisler Drive, June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. Activities include obstacle courses, bounce castles, prizes and food.
  • MegaMania at Pima Community College’s Downtown Campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave., July 9 from 1 to 6 p.m. Events include Arizona authors, making a costume, anime and magic.
  • Zoo Celebration at the Reid Park Zoo in Reid Park, July 16 from 8 to 11 a.m. Visit any library to pick up an invitation starting June 16.
