Jared McDonald

A Tucson man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after police in Sierra Vista police say he struck and killed a 71-year-old bicyclist in a DUI-related crash.

Jared McDonald, 31, of Tucson, struck the man just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the shoulder of Buffalo Soldier Trail just south of Garden Avenue, Cpl. Tim Wachtel, said in a news release.

David Alva, of Hereford, was riding south on the shoulder of Buffalo Soldier Trail when McDonald’s 2003 Dodge Caravan left the road and struck him. Alva was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wachtel said investigators suspect McDonald was impaired.

McDonald was booked into the Cochise County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, negligent homicide, manslaughter, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, and DUI-drugs.
