Tucson police arrested a suspect in Wednesday's fatal shooting on the southeast side of town.
Jordan C. Ewer, 21, was booked into the Pima County jail Wednesday night on one count of first-degree murder, according to a Tucson Police Department news release.
Detectives have identified two other suspects in the shooting death of 40-year-old Gabriel Escalante. One of the suspects was located, but not arrested, and police are attempting to find the second man so they can speak to him about the incident, the release said.
Officers responded to a 911 call for shots fired shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the 8700 block of East Almond Street, near East Irvington Road and South Camino Seco, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
When they arrived, officers found Escalante in the road with gunshot trauma, Dugan said.
Officers rendered first aid until Tucson Fire Department paramedics arrived and took over life-saving efforts, however Escalante was pronounced deceased, Dugan said.
Homicide detectives have learned that several people came to the neighborhood to meet Escalante, when an altercation broke out in the street and shots were fired.
Detectives don't yet know if there was an exchange of gunfire or if only one gun was fired during the incident, Dugan said.
It appears that the suspects knew Escalante, Dugan said.
