One person was killed and four were injured when a shuttle crashed on the southbound I-19 frontage road on Wednesday.

A Tucson man was killed and four others injured in a shuttle crash on the southbound I-19 frontage road near Amado Wednesday.

The dead man was identified as Eliazar Borquez, 83, said Kameron Lee, a state Department of Public Safety officer.

The driver and three passengers โ€” all adults โ€” were taken to a Tucson hospital. Two were airlifted by helicopter and the other two were transported by ambulance, Lee said.

"It appears no one was wearing seatbelts," said Lee in an email.

"Fatigue played a factor" in the crash, Lee said.

The driver of the shuttle van faces a citation of failing to control his vehicle, Lee said.

He said the van went off the right side of the road and traveled through a fence. It rolled across the frontage road and landed on its wheels.
