More rain expected to add to June's total.

The official weather gauge at Tucson International Airport has collected 0.78 inches of rain this month β€” more than five times the monthly average of 0.15 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Two-inch totals for June 2016 are not uncommon across the region, according to the citizen scientists who collect data for the University of Arizona's Rainlog program, with totals approaching 3 inches in the Santa Catalina Foothills.

Midtown, where Sunday's storm hit hardest, is consistently above 1.5 inches.

Wet starts can herald productive monsoon years β€” or they can fizzle.

The record June total of 2.07 inches came in a year (1938) that produced a below-average monsoon total of 5.72 inches.

As of now, this is the 11th wettest June on record in Tucson β€” and the forecast calls for two more wet days.
