One man was killed and another was wounded early Saturday when police say four men tried to crash a house party near the University of Arizona.

About 1 a.m. Saturday, police went to the 1600 block of North Highland Avenue, near East Speedway, for reports of a shooting, Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman, said in a news release.

Officers found two men with gunshot wounds. One man, Peter Ortiz, 25, died later at the hospital.

The second man shot is expected to survive, Dugan said.

Detectives with the gang unit took over the investigation and have learned that shortly before 1 a.m. a group of four men arrived at a large house party and tried to get inside. They were told they weren’t welcome and an argument broke out. One of the four men then fired into the air and then into the crowd, police say.

The four men are believed to be affiliated with a gang, police said.
