Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus tweeted on Tuesday morning that he was the victim of a smash and grab theft Monday night.
He discovered his car broken into and reported it shortly before 8 a.m., said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a department spokeswoman. She said in an email that "the chief's personal backpack with miscellaneous electronics was stolen and not recovered."
Bay said there are no suspects at this time.
The chief tweeted:
"In my haste last night, I left my backpack in my car. Guess I had to learn that lesson (one I even preach!) the hard way. #preventionlesson"
He also showed a picture of his car with the window smashed out.
