A 20-year-old shot and injured during an argument Dec. 15 has died, and detectives will present the case to prosecutors for potential charges, Tucson police said Tuesday.
Police gave the following account in a news release:
About 7 p.m. Dec. 15, officers were called to a home in the 900 block of West Connecticut Drive, on the city's southwest side, about a shooting.
They found Jose Trevino Murillo, 20, in the front yard with gunshot wounds. Murillo was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers were notified that a blue SUV was seen leaving the area. Police were able to find the SUV east of the shooting scene.
Officers stopped the vehicle and found that the driver, a 40-year-old man whose name was not released, had also sustained gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives learned that the 40-year-old man had arrived at the home to speak with Murillo, the two began arguing, and the argument escalated to shots being fired. Both were struck by gunfire.
On Dec. 22, police were notified that Murillo died of his injuries, they said in a news release Dec. 31, adding that they will present the case to the Pima County Attorney's Office for potential charges.
