Desert Museum

A great horned owl takes flight during the Raptor Free Flight demonstration at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, one of five Tucson destinations taking part in the Today project.

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum reopened to the public at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, after announcing a temporary closure due to a water shortage.

The museum announced the closure on Facebook, shortly before 9 a.m., saying that because of a "lack of adequate water for guest services," the museum was closed to the general public "until further notice."

While the source of the water loss is still unknown, a later Facebook post said that water was flowing into and collecting properly in the museum's reservoir.

Food service at the museum will be limited to pre-packaged items for the rest of the day, and all other activities are back on their normal schedule, the post said.

Staff is working to fix the problem as soon as possible and no animals are at risk, according to the post.
