Kyle Mrofka

A Border Patrol agent stationed in Ajo was arrested on a fugitive warrant issued in connection with two charges of lewd acts with a minor in California.

Supervisory Agent Kyle Mrofka, 29, is being held without bond at the Pima County jail until he is extradited to Imperial County, which borders Yuma.

He faces two counts of lewd acts in which the defendant was at least 10 years older than a 14- or 15-year-old child, according to Imperial County Superior Court records. The charges were filed May 26, 2013.

Deputies from Pima and Imperial counties served a fugitive warrant at the Ajo Station on Sept. 29, said Deputy Cody Gress, a spokesman for the Pima County Sheriffโ€™s Department. Imperial County deputies interviewed Mrofka before he was taken into custody by Pima County deputies.

Mrofka is scheduled to appear at a Nov. 2 review hearing before a Pima County Superior Court judge, according to court records.

Mrofka has worked with the Border Patrol for nine years, the Tucson Sector public affairs office said in a statement. He was indefinitely suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

โ€œThe U.S. Border Patrol stresses honor and integrity in every aspect of its mission,โ€ the statement said. โ€œWe do not tolerate misconduct on or off duty and will fully cooperate with all investigations of alleged unlawful conduct by our personnel.โ€

The Yuma Sun reported Mrofka was a graduate of Cibola High School in Yuma and the alleged lewd acts occurred in the Picacho State Recreation Area, located along the Colorado River about 25 miles north of Yuma.
