The Tucson Fire Department came to the rescue of a man stranded in the Pantano Wash Wednesday night following heavy rains.Β

The swift water rescue at the Pantano Wash near Kenyon Drive was reported at 11:21 p.m. The caller told authorities a person was clinging to a tree in the wash.Β

Unable to reach the man with a ladder truck, a rescue group of five firefighters entered the wash and were able to walk him out just before midnight.Β

During monsoons, washes can rise quickly. People are encouraged to stay away from creeks and washes during heavy rainfall.Β

Moving water that is 1 to 2 feet deep will carry away vehicles and can knock a person off their feet.Β
