It's back: Tucson's temperature officially hit 90 degrees Thursday afternoon (and might not have topped out yet for the day), marking the warmest day of 2024 so far.
The last time Tucson was in the 90s was Nov. 4, 2023, the National Weather Service office says.
"Remember to drink water and look out for vulnerable populations today," NWS said on X, formerly Twitter.
"The 90s won't stick around too long as the temperatures begin to cool down to near normal by the weekend," it added.
The forecast for Tucson International Airport, where the city's official weather records are taken, is for mid-80s warmth Friday through Sunday.
Also, we've had quite a reprieve so far this mild spring. In the period between 1991 and 2020, Tucson's average first 90-degree weather came on March 30, the weather service says.
The historical (1895-2023) average first 90-degree day is April 8.
The earliest 90-degree day of the year on record was Feb. 14, 1957, while the latest was a tie, on May 16 in 1905 and 1933.
Tucson's weather records go back to 1895.
