Tucson logged a second consecutive day of record-breaking heat.

The high of 111 degrees Tuesday broke the previous, 1979 record of 110 for July 9, the National Weather Service says.

That comes after Monday's 112 topped the previous high temperature of 111 for July 8 set in 1920 and 1994.

The weather service's current excessive heat warning for the Tucson area will last through Wednesday evening.Β

A high of 108 is forecast for Wednesday, with a chance of thunderstorms that night, the weather service says.

Phoenix, which also broke its high-temperature record Monday, with 118, was merely 116 on Tuesday, a tie with its July 9 record set in 1958.Β
