If you've been waiting to wash your car, this weekend may be your chance with a decline in monsoon activity expected in the Tucson area.ย

The downturn in rainfall is due to a high-pressure movement from the northwest to the center of the city, says the National Weather Service.

"That kind of high pressure can hinder storm chances," said National Weather Service forecaster Aaron Hardin. "There's still some chances of isolated storms, but overall coverage will be less."

Friday will have a 60% chance of rain with an expected high of 104 degrees. Chances will dip to 40% on Saturday with a high of 102 degrees and a 30% chance on Sunday with a high of 103 degrees.

Low chances of rain are expected to last through the beginning of next week with a 30% chance on Monday and Tuesday and a 20% chance on Wednesday.

"It's hard to say that far out how active it will be," Hardin said. Monday through Wednesday have an expected high of 104 degrees.

Hardin says this year's monsoon has been slightly more active in most parts of Southern Arizona.

"At the airport, we're at about two-tenths of an inch above normal," Hardin said. "Nogales is actually a little bit below normal, but Sierra Vista and Wilcox, those are a little above normal by about an inch."

Workplaces are setting up employee protections as summers grow hotter, longer and more extreme due to climate change.
