High temperatures in metro Tucson will continue to be about eight to 12 degrees hotter than normal this week, but relief is possible by the weekend, the weather service says.
Temperatures will go back to near normal here Thursday, then fall to about 10 degrees below normal for the weekend, the National Weather Service in Tucson said Monday in its weekly forecast.
Tucson has been burning through records for high temperatures for weeks. In fact, 2024 last week broke the record for most days in a year of at least 100 degrees.
Thatβs expected to change Friday.

Tucson this week will continue to be hotter than normal, but a storm system coming into the area Friday is expected to bring cooler temperatures along with wind and possibly rain, the weather service says.
A cool weather system will make its way into Southeast Arizona on Friday, bringing windy conditions and a chance for showers and thunderstorms, the weather service says.
The strongest chance of storms will occur Friday afternoon and evening.
The system will move out of the area Saturday, but itβll leave cooler temperatures behind, the forecast shows.
How cool? Tucsonβs expected highs on Friday and Saturday are expected to be in the mid to upper 70s.
Fridayβs wind could be worst near Willcox Playa in Cochise County, the weather service said. That means thereβs a risk that blowing dust could affect visibility for motorists traveling along Interstate 10 in the Willcox area.
The weather system could also drop morning temperatures into the 30s in the valleys east of Tucson, especially on Sunday, the weather service said.
