If it sometimes feels like driving in Tucson can be a little bit scary, you might be right.
According to one website, Arizona has the 36th safest drivers in the nation, based on a variety of factors.
With motor vehicle fatalities having increased over the last several years, news website 24/7 Wall St. referred to EverQuote's "2016-2017 EverDrive Safe Driving Report" in order to rank states on their drivers safety (or not so safe) habits.
"While factors outside of the control of drivers, such as weather and road conditions, can increase or lower the risk of injury, much of the regional differences in traffic fatalities have to do with driver choice," the article says.
So what dropped Arizona down to 36th place?
According to EverQuote, Arizona has the 9th highest rate of phone use, with those surveyed saying they used their phone on 40.6 percent of their trips.
Arizona also has the 13th highest speeding rate, also coming in at 40.6 percent, and the 24th highest rate of seat belt use, with 87 percent of those surveyed saying they use their seat belts while driving.
Our state also came in with the 10th most motor vehicle deaths per 100 million miles at 1.37, well above the national average of 1.13, according to the article.
