A wildfire burned about 500 acres as of Friday afternoon near Sasabe, and was expected to grow, authorities said.
The human-caused fire, which is under investigation, was reported at 9:30 a.m. about 10 miles northeast of Sasabe, said Heidi Schewel, a Coronado National Forest spokeswoman.
The Cumero Fire is burning grass and brush and is next to the Cumero Mountain. It is being driven by wind.
About 100 wildland fire crews were battling the blaze with the help of five engines and two helicopters that were used to drop water, said Schewel.Â
State, federal and local agencies were working the fire.
