Re: the June 11 article β€œHart to leave top UA post but not university.”

The University of Arizona, a Research One university, deserves to be led by a president of the highest order. Its faculty and staff often are at the forefront of the nation’s academic and leadership initiatives, and the Arizona Board of Regents must pursue the most aggressive steps in finding a president who will bring the expertise and the record of previous achievement to this university.

The creation of a search committee should already be underway, and its makeup must reflect the wisest and most informed individuals from the institution and the Tucson community. Time is of the essence: The University of Arizona must have a new president before 2018.
