Re: the Nov. 27 editorialΒ "YWCA: Stand with us against bigotry and hate in Tucson"

Appreciation goes to the YWCA for hosting We Stand Together November 30. The Star’s printing of the column about this event certainly worked: More than twice the people expected showed up. With Police Chief Chris Magnus and Tucson’s Mayor Rothschild both speaking, among other fine presenters, I felt proud to be a member of this community. Our collective presence verified that Tucsonans will stand up and protect one another from any degree of hate, abuse or bullying that might occur in public or otherwise, resulting from the recent election.

My friend and I felt empowered for the first time since Nov. 8. We have a place to go for coordinated action and training in nonviolent ways to stop harassment. We no longer feel alone or powerless. Thank you YWCA, and let’s keep this energy going! I invite others who could not attend to visit the YWCA website and find out how you can get involved in We Stand Together.
