After the shootings in Washington, DC, it didn't take long for Rep. Martha McSally to jump in front of of the cameras. No surprise. Politicians love attention at times of tragedy and McSally is a typical politician. It's just that when it's your Representative acting out, it feels especially yucky.

What McSally doesn't get is that it's not just rhetoric that contributes to the angry politics in this country, it's also how we treat each other. When you tell bankers that you support repeal of the Dodd-Frank law, but tell the public you're undecided, that's called lying. Voters are right to be angry when you lie to them. Want to improve the tone? Start with being honest and forthright with your constituents and let's discuss our differences openly.

The story concludes that McSally, "has no plans to cancel any meetings with the public." Martha (sigh), before you can cancel a meeting with the public, first you've got to schedule one.
