Sometimes you have to see to believe.

When editorial writer Sarah Garrecht Gassen wrote on April 2 that we welcome letters to the editor from people with varying opinions β€” that it’s not in anyone’s best interest for one world view to dominate our letters to the editor β€” several people wrote to say that they just didn’t believe her.

They were certain that we choose to publish only letters with a liberal world view.

We shared our frustration over that incorrect belief with the Arizona Daily Star’s first Community Editorial Board, five Tucsonans from varying careers, ages and political beliefs we’ve been meeting with once a month.

Their reaction: Why don’t you publish every letter you get?

The constraints of the print edition make that impossible, but the digital world has no such limits. So with the help of our excellent software developer Thomas Hruska, we have created a forum where you can read nearly every letter we get β€” those with obscene, libelous or threatening language exempted.

They’re sorted by topic so you can easily find what interests you. And you can post comments on any letter you read.

While we consolidated comments about news stories to Facebook a few months ago, letters seems the ideal venue for a robust exchange of ideas. Because letters and comments are in one place instead of scattered across our website and mobile app, it’s easier for us to moderate and keep things civil.

Please join the conversation. We want to hear from you no matter your politics.
