Re: the May 17 letter "Apology for bombings is critical in many ways."

The letter about bombing Hiroshima and Nagaski will be debated forever. I would like to ask the writer some questions. Were you there when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor? The thousands of young men who died on those ships, as they were going about their jobs, and to church on a beautiful Sunday morning, was almost unbelievable.

I remember listening to the radio and reading the newspaper, and not knowing what was going to happen to our country.

Were you there when our men were forced to go on the Bataan Death March? Were you there when our men were fighting for our country in the Solomon Islands for months? Were you there when our men were taken to the Japanese mainland and were forced to work and be tortured?

The writer has a right to his opinion, but if he were living in my generation, he might feel differently. He was not there, obviously.
