Re: the May 29 column "When's the best age to retire? Let's clear up confusion."

Regarding the recent article about Social Security benefits and what age to retire, I am one of the 4 percent mentioned who retired at 62 years old. I've been receiving monthly checks for eight years for a total of $104,352. For those people who work until 66, 70 or longer, my question is: how many years will it take before they make up for the money they could have had for the years from 62 until the later date? I realize everyone's situation is different and you have to consider your personal finances, but life is short.

There are no guarantees that those who choose to wait will live long enough to make the later date the correct financial choice. The freedom and happiness that comes with retirement is one of the few gifts of growing old. For me, the 62 year retirement math works.
