Re: the June 5 article "Experts: Fine print shielding facilities for aged."
I read, with personal interest, your report on the patient in Green Valley who died from βneglect." My mother-in-law was in several facilities and received minimal care in each. The accreditation agency in Arizona has rated Tucson adult/assisted care facilities at 3.1 on a five point scale. I sent an email to each of the βinvestigativeβ news channels to have them look into the βhorrendousβ state of of elder care and have not received a single response.
Elder care is abominable in Tucson, but no one seems to really care. If not for our frequent visits to the facilities, our parent could well have been the gentleman in Green Valley. We had a report from Tucson Medical Center Hospice care that when they visited, our parent was lying in her own feces because the staff was waiting for the hospice people to show up.Β
It is a reprehensible condition when no one seems to care. And more so when you learn that you cannot sue for negligence, neglect, malpractice, or down right stupidity.
