Re: the Oct. 12 articles "Lacking political instincts, Pima sheriff walks into trouble" and "Indicted chief deputy quits Pima County sheriff's post"
I would like to applaud and commend reporter Caitlin Schmidt and columnist Tim Steller for their articles. Caitlin Schmidt reported last November about the opening of an investigation by the FBI. Acting Sheriff Chris Nanos said it would be "a waste of taxpayers money." He also challenged the FBI, saying he would "send some policemen over to help them do their job."
The article by Tim Steller points out the "maneuver" former Sheriff pulled by resigning mid-term to hand pick Chris Nanos. This was designed to create the impression that Nanos was running as an incumbent, which is a distinctive advantage in the election.
The bottom line is the Star editorial department’s endorsement of Mark Napier for Sheriff of Pima County.
