Re: the May 22 article "Deaths per 10,000 border crossers are up five times from a decade ago."
Sister Judy Bourg and Margo McKinsey want to remember those illegal border crossers by planting memorial crosses at the sites where they think the person died. It would be much more productive, to plant all those crosses right at the border, with a sign that says, "Here are all those who died trying to cross into the country illegally. Do you want your name here?" These two women are contributing to the deaths by sending a message that, if you are one of the lucky ones who makes it alive, we will shelter you. If not, we will mark your grave.
A nation is defined by its borders. If you have no borders, you are not a nation, but, a piece of land that anyone can occupy. We have the right to decide who can visit, who can be a legal alien and who can become a citizen. To give up that right is to give up our national identity, which American patriots have died to protect.
