In response to this letter, Pima County, which is building and will own Spaceport Tucson, agrees that nothing should harm the operation and expansion of Tucson International Airport.
Expanding the operations and economic impact of TIA is a key component of our regional Economic Development Plan. So, too, is retaining and attracting high-wage technology and aerospace employers like World View. The Federal Aviation Administration, through Federal Air Traffic Control, will regulate all balloon launches. They have compared the planned balloon launches by World View as similar to a single private aircraft taking off once a week.
We are certain Spaceport Tucson can be operated safely and will be a boon for Tucson International Airport, as well as our regional economy.
