Re: the Dec. 21 article "Kimberly Andrews Espy: University of Arizona is open for business"ย
The University of Arizona is open for business with Raytheon, a senior administrator tells us.
Without using the word, only a single sentence in the essay obliquely addresses the heart and soul of Raytheon's mission. Fact is, Raytheon makes a killing on war. Like the bombs they profitably sold to Saudi Arabia, remnants of which were this year found in the carnage of a Yemeni wedding.
Air Force Plant #44 is not simply a machine shop, dutifully filling government orders. This is a corporation that has chosen to and has succeeded in profiting from perpetual war. With soul-sacrificing support from the University of Arizona, Tucson and Pima County, Raytheon imagines the warfare of the future and works to create this reality: our future, hooked on war, depending on the destruction of communities around the world to build our own. What tragic folly.
