As I read the May 28 front page article, I had to double-check the date to confirm that the item headlined "2 diversity posts at UA come with $200K+ salaries," was not an April Fool's joke. It was reported that while searching for one new diversity director they found two who were judged to be so good that they hired them both for salaries 30 percent higher than the going rate.
Suppose you were in the market for one new automobile and you found two that you simply fell in love with, so much so that you purchased them both and offered to pay more than the list price. Do you think that would ever happen? I didn't think so. So I wonder if they have lost their ability to reason rationally over there at the university. I doubt that this fiasco will induce the Legislature to loosen the purse strings.
