FLAGSTAFF — Two foxes that were captured in Flagstaff have tested positive for rabies.
The Coconino County Public Health Services District says the foxes had attacked people and animals in east Flagstaff and near Lowell Observatory.
The four people are being treated, and the two dogs are under quarantine for 45 days.
The health district says people should avoid nocturnal animals that are active in the daytime and animals that are behaving strangely.
Pets also should be kept on leashes and away from wild animals.
Rabies is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal.
