PHOENIX — Police in Phoenix say a suspect has been arrested in connection with a homicide case that originally appeared to be a fatal car collision with a pedestrian.
They say 37-year-old Aaren Shivers has been booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
It was unclear Tuesday if Shivers has a lawyer who can speak on his behalf.
Police say 23-year-old R.J. Dunton was pronounced dead at a hospital Monday.
Officers responded to what was initially reported as a car-pedestrian accident after Dunton was found critically injured in the roadway.
Police say Shivers remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
Investigators determined Shivers punched the victim near the side of the road and that forced him to fall into traffic where he was struck by a passing vehicle.
