BUCKEYE — A woman has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk on Halloween night as she was taking six children trick-or-treating, police in the Phoenix suburb of Buckeye say.
Veronica Lee King, 41, was jailed on suspicion of five counts of aggravated DUI and one count of having an open container of alcohol, police said.
Five of the children in the vehicle were under the age of 10.
King reportedly drove her SUV off the road and into a ditch about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
King showed a number of signs of impairment including bloodshot and watery eyes, swaying, slurred speech and having a moderate odor of alcohol, police said.
Preliminary breath tests determined King had a blood-alcohol level of 0.165 percent, more than twice the legal limit for Arizona drivers, police said.
