PHOENIX β€” The Arizona Department of Transportation is beefing up its ability to incorporate weather information in operations such as clearing highways during winter storms.

The department says it is partnering with Arizona State University to have a meteorology graduate student from the School of Geographical Sciences & Urban Planning work in ADOT's traffic operations center.

Assistant Director Brent Cain of ADOT's transportation systems, management and operations division says the addition will help the agency more quickly determine how to deploy crews and communicate with the public.

ASU Professor Randy Cerveny says the arrangement will benefit students by allowing them to experience how meteorology can provide services in many areas.
