TOMBSTONE โ Old West re-enactments in Tombstone once again feature gunfighting, as a ban in the wake of an injured actor has been lifted.
Mayor Dusty Escapule called for the three-month temporary ban after actor Ken Curtis was shot in the groin by a live round during an October street performance. His scene partner was supposed to be shooting blanks.
On Jan. 12, the city passed an ordinance that requires businesses to obtain permits to conduct shooting re-enactments.
The ban had applied only to the free gunfight performances in Tombstoneโs historic district and did not apply to Tombstoneโs four businesses that perform daily gunfight shows on private property.
The Cochise County Attorneyโs Office is still deciding whether to bring criminal charges against the actor who shot Curtis.
