Senator John McCain was recently admitted to Walter Reed Medical Center for what his staff calls "normal side effects" from his cancer therapy.
In a short statement to the press, McCain's staff said the Senator is grateful to his physicians for their excellent care and plans to go back to work soon.
"Senator McCain looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible," the released stated.
The 81-year-old Republican was diagnosed glioblastoma, an aggressive cancer, in July while undergoing a procedure to remove a blood clot at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.
About 20,000 people in the U.S. each year are diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive type of brain tumor. The American Cancer Society puts the five-year survival rate for patients over 55 at about 4 percent.
