Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, speaking here during the primary election here in July, is set to be one of the speakers Monday at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero is set to speak today at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Romero is scheduled to speak at 3 p.m. Tucson time, according to a Pima County Democratic Party news release. She co-chairs the DNC platform committee with Mitch Landrieu, says Charlene Mendoza, Romero's political director and chief of staff.

Romero also was set to spend the day speaking and participating at various convention events, touting support here of the Democratic presidential ticket and advocate for policies that support communities, the release said.

"The Democratic National Convention is a crucial opportunity for Democrats across our nation to showcase our unity and proudly communicate a hopeful vision for the future," the news release says. "Romero’s part in this pivotal and historical event will help shape the future of our city, state and nation."

President Joe Biden will be Monday night's keynote speaker, according to the Associated Press. First Lady Jill Biden, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez also are scheduled to speak.

Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are expected to speak on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, according to NBC Chicago. Former First Lady Michelle Obama is set to speak Tuesday.

Minnesota Governor and VP candidate Tim Walz will speak Wednesday, and Vice President Kamala Harris is set to accept the party's nomination on Thursday.

Pima Dems will be hosting a watch party for Harris' speech Thursday night, at Brother John's Bourbon and Beer, 1801 N. Stone Ave. The watch party is set for 6 p.m.
