Several bolts strike the southern reaches of the Rincon Mountains last week as traffic from Interstate 10 speeds past. Isolated monsoon storms are possible in the region early this week, but drier weather is expected here for the weekend, forecasters say.

Isolated and scattered thunderstorms are possible today and tomorrow across southeast Arizona, including the Tucson metro region, though it most likely will be focused west from western Cochise County, officials say.

Rain chances here will likely be from Tucson south and west, the National Weather Service said Monday morning.

Monsoon storms can include strong to severe wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall, the weather service says.

Monday and Tuesday will be the hottest days in the region, between 4 degrees and 7 degrees hotter than normal. Tucson’s high Monday is expected to be about 103.

The potential for storms increases to cover most of southeast Arizona on Wednesday and Thursday. The possibility of overnight thunderstorms Tuesday, however, could hinder storm coverage Wednesday.

Drier air is set to move into the region Friday and the weekend, reducing storm chances and keeping those that do form to be mostly east of Tucson, the weather service says.
