A chicken sandwich from Kentucky Fried Chicken will go where no chicken sandwich has gone before this Thursday, June 22.
And its journey will begin in Tucson.
KFC has partnered with World View Enterprises, a Tucson-based company with the ability to launch capsules tethered to giant balloons into the stratosphere, to send one of its new spicy Zinger sandwiches on the company’s first extended duration development flight.
The promotional stunt gives World View the opportunity to demonstrate the Stratollite’s capabilities. It also provides financing for the vehicle’s development program, according to a news release.
The Zinger will travel 60,000-80,000 feet above the Earth's surface at a rate of about 1,000 feet per minute.
Fans of chicken going into space can watch the Zinger 1 Space Mission launch as it is live-streamed on the website www.KFCin.space
The launch will take place between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday morning.
