OB Sports, a national golf management firm that has taken control of day-to-day duties at Tucsonβs five municipal courses β Dell Urich, Randolph, Silverbell, El Rio and Fred Enke β has been an early success for one reason: The courses have been in better condition in brutal summer conditions than in many years. Itβs clear OBβs key course maintenance people know what they are doing. Unfortunately, Iβve never seen fewer people playing golf, on the city courses and elsewhere, ever. Over the next few years, I wouldnβt be surprised if four or five Southern Arizona golf courses are shuttered, much the way Green Valleyβs Canoa Hills and Vailβs Santa Rita have closed recently.
