Grijalva

Opponent says: Let Grijalva do her job

I was the No Labels Party candidate in the Sept. 23 special election in Congressional District 7. With less than 1% of the vote, I conceded. Adelita Grijalva won an overwhelming victory to become the next U.S. representative.

In the last House special election, in Virginia’s District 11 on Sept. 9, Democrat James Walkinshaw was sworn in by Speaker Mike Johnson the very next day, Sept. 10. Yet days after Grijalva’s uncontested win, Republicans on Capitol Hill are stalling, saying she will not be sworn in for weeks.

This is unacceptable. The people of Congressional District 7 — stretching from Tucson through Southern Arizona, from Yuma County to Cochise County — have been without a voting member of the U.S. House for more than six months. Adelita Grijalva must be sworn in immediately as our congresswoman.

Autism solved

Such a waste of time, all this flailing about for the cause of autism. Clearly, it’s not Tylenol. Clearly, it’s not vaccines. I’ve solved this conundrum, and it’s so obvious that even a drug-addled, bear-carcass-toting, whale-decapitating, brain-worm-hosting sewage-canal merman should be able to see it. It’s ... diapers! Every single child with autism once wore diapers. How can there be any doubt? So from now on — and this should please the raw milk-swilling MAHA (Make American Healthy Again) crowd — babies must be allowed the sweet freedom of peeing and pooping au naturel, as God and nature intended. Outlaw diapers! Case closed. I’ll take my Nobel Prize in medicine now, thank you very much.

Ciscomani’s DC money tree

Washington, D.C., covers 57 square miles and is surrounded by reality, where people with a “what’s in it for me” mindset thrive. It’s a place driven by ambition and people lacking skills, where truth is hard to find, secrets openly shared, and dreams often end in disappointment. It reflects America’s greed, corporate influence, and political scheming. It’s where the business of other people’s business gets handled. And my Congressman, Juan Ciscomani, is right at the thick of it.

It’s a place where Ciscomani’s campaign fundraising events happen at night, featuring unappealing buffets of Swedish meatballs, bourbon, and chips, paid for by the holy trinity of corporate money contributed to his Political Action Committee. It’s where he raises most of his cash, not back in his district. Too many people watching here in CD6. Of course, he doesn’t want to draw a crowd of voters because he might have to answer questions from constituents. That’s why Ciscomani hides out in Washington.

My amazing wife

I need to tell you about my amazing wife.

She is the most selfless, loving, kind human on the planet.

I am 89, in a wheelchair, and would not be alive without her

She dresses me, feeds me, manages my meds and dresses my wounds.

She waters the plants, feeds the birds, does daily laundry, and shops for the groceries.

She volunteers with CASA, advocating for homeless children and the St Vincent de Paul Counsel feeding the poor.

She loves her children, grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and never misses a birthday.

She helps our elderly neighbors and looks after their needs.

She bakes bread, special brownies, Christmas cookies, and Easter eggs for the grandkids.

She drives me to my doctors, nurses me daily, and feeds my spiritual soul.

She lives her Christian faith to the fullest and mirrors the gospel teachings.

If the Pope knew of her, he would have beatified her years ago.

She does it all.

That’s my wife ... she’s amazing

One killer remains at large

Recent killings are very troubling. Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer apparently subsequently joked online about his violence, instead of expressing any remorse or self-doubt. Likewise, Donald Trump ordered executions of alleged Venezuelan drug traffickers on the high seas with no judicial process and no evidence of guilt.

Are Trump’s orders to kill without any judicial process or war declaration lawful orders? Military personnel who execute these orders should realize that following unlawful orders is no defense against their own prosecution.

What’s next? Will Trump order the murders of alleged drug cartel members in Mexico? Does he circumvent our justice system and order the murders of supposed criminals on American soil? It is then only a small step for this homicidal megalomaniac to assassinate his political enemies on American streets, as he basks in immunity granted by the Supreme Court. Trump’s incitement of the Jan. 6 riot proves he is capable of committing any crime. Defend the rule of law.

Constitutional quorum

It is difficult to understand the raging furor over immigrants. Every signer to the U.S. Constitution was either an immigrant or a direct descendant of an immigrant. And those drafters, signers and ratifiers did not include any language in the US Constitution that imposed punitive measures on immigrants.

Re: Beale misled public

Incredibly, county supervisors did not clarify contract ambiguities and, with documented history of data center’s lies, deceptions, and negative impacts in other communities, they accepted PB verbal assurances on a deal shrouded in secrecy. What other ambiguities, tax incentives and negative impacts are in the contract?

As Tim Steller comments, the 3-member supervisor majority touted the 18-mile pipeline for unsustainable water delivery as a community investment and now it’s unclear what “investment” means. Plan B relies on massive increase in electricity production, that also requires water, with direct and indirect costs ultimately shifted to ratepayers and taxpayers.

Tucson is not well served by supervisors who didn’t perform due diligence or have expert legal examination of the PB contract, yet still insist on approval. It’s disappointing Mayor and council did not preemptively enact ordinances for protection against data center abuses as Marana has done.

Artificial Intelligence with data-center mania is a bubble that may burst with predicted unintended consequences, including massive job layoffs.

Loving God without caring for Earth?

Climate change is real and understandable. Shorter-wavelength sunlight, peaking at blue-green, enters our atmosphere to sustain life on Earth, while Earth radiates longer-wavelength infrared to maintain stability. The radiative balance is critical for life. Molecules released from fossil-fuel burning, however, effectively absorb Earth’s longer-wavelength radiation then re-emit partly into the atmosphere, trapping heat like glass does (by another mechanism) in greenhouses, hence “greenhouse gases”. Observations and computational modeling confirm that accelerated massive use of fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution intensifies the greenhouse-gas concentration causing gradual Global Warming. In time, climate change resulted as seen in the melting of icebergs and glaciers, the rising sea-levels, and the recurring extreme weather, generating floods, droughts and wildfires — costing the U.S. S183B damage and 568 deaths in 2024 (NOAA). The scientific consensus: achieve net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050 to avoid the point of no return. I don’t recognize my country

I was born in Los Angeles in 1948, Lincoln Hospital. I now carry my birth certificate in my truck. I’m a Mexican-American in the country I fought for in Vietnam.

We have a want-to-be dictator as a so-called President. This man has allowed MAGA terrorists, murder, Melissa Hortman and her husband murdered in their bed. And never acknowledge their deaths because a mega Evangelist killed them. Nowm poor Mr. Kirk is being used as a saint? I miss the country I protected. In 1969-70, I was in Vietnam. I want the country we had before the fascist party took over. Vote Blue. Now, Trump wants to cheat to win reelection. Vote against the Hitler want-to-be. The dumbest official we ever had.

More pressing issues

Tom Homan, Trump’s Border Czar, was recorded allegedly accepting $50,000 cash from undercover agents, posing as businessmen, in return for receiving government contracts in a second Trump administration. This case was abruptly swept under the rug by Trump’s Department of Justice. Meanwhile, they are working on more pressing issues like the nefarious escalator conspiracy at the UN, demanding that the persons who were responsible for the glitch be arrested. While Fox News touts Trump as the “most masculine President ever,” it seems he’s incapable of safely walking up a flight of stairs.

Government shutdown

I think that the Democrats must resort to shutting down this morally, scientifically, constitutionally, economically, bankrupt government. Our government is a danger to children and other living things.
