Tanque Verde Unified School District will resume classes Wednesday, May 2.
The district will operate on an early release schedule at all of its schools Wednesday, May 2 and Thursday, May 3.
"We believe returning for a half day "soft opening" on Wednesday and Thursday is in our students' best interest while we work to resume the normal school schedule and staffing levels," said Scott Hagerman, the district's superintendent in a parent letter.
By reopening schools Wednesday, May 2 and Thursday, May 3 as half days the district says it should not have to extend the school year for students beyond Memorial Day.
"We continue to evaluate plans that will minimize disruption and provide flexibility to our TVUSD families. Any days added to extend the school calendar will be opportunities for additional learning, but will not be required and will not factor into a student’s grade," the letter continued.
Sahuarita Unified will resume classes tomorrow and operate on a half day schedule through Friday. The district opened schools today to all staff. Each department conducted assessments of available resources and came up with plans to reopen schools.
All aspects of food service will operate and transportation services will operate normal routes for the half-day schedule. If you decide to keep your kids home, report the absence so it can be excused. All zero hour classes are canceled for the rest of this week.
Class will resume on Thursday, May 3 for all Amphitheater schools.
Schools will remain closed Wednesday, May 2.
Instructional time missed during the closure will need to be made up.
"Please be assured we are exploring all potential options to minimize the impact on the end of the year," read a message from Todd Jaeger, Amphi superintendent. "What we know right now is that we will need to extend our existing school days by a number of minutes each day, as well as cancel all scheduled early out days on Tuesdays."
Tucson Unified School District was the first to announce that it will remain closed Wednesday, May 2, due to reported teacher absences for that day.
Warren Elementary will remain on total shutdown, meaning there will be no staff or food services at that site. Families can still go to any other TUSD school for breakfast and lunch.
The TUSD governing board will meet tonight to discuss issues pertaining to the walkout. Makeup instruction plans will be made as soon as the district knows how much time needs to be made up.
If you'd like to go to the board meeting, it'll be at 5:15 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Duffy Community Center, 5145 E. Fifth Street.
Sunnyside Unified School District will remain closed through Friday. If anything changes, families will be notified. Meal services will be available at Craycroft, Los Amigos, Elvira, Mission Manor and Drexel. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
All Flowing Wells School District schools will be closed Wednesday, May 2. No breakfast or lunch will be available, as cafeterias are closing as well.
Catalina Foothills School District will remain closed tomorrow, May 2.
Marana Unified School District will remain closed May 2, but anticipates opening on Thursday, May 3. Meal services will be available at select locations tomorrow.
The Vail school district remains open. Today's teacher attendance rate was 77 percent, said a letter from superintendent Calvin Baker. Normal rate is 92 percent. Classes were covered by teachers, substitute teachers, certified support office staff and support staff.
