Arizona Wildcats softball standout Alyssa Palomino was named a first-team NFCA All-American Wednesday. The sophomore first baseman's newest accolade is the 100th All-America honor in program history.
Palomino came back from her second ACL tear in as many years and led the Wildcats in batting average (.363), home runs (19), slugging percentage (.750) and on-base percentage (.446).
Although her current Pac-12 records could be passed during the upcoming Women’s College World Series, the Mission Viejo, California native is the current leader in home runs and slugging percentage. She is also third in Pac-12 with 126 total bases.
If Palomino’s 19 home runs stand, it would be the fifth consecutive year a Wildcat is the Pac-12’s home run leader or co-leader (2014 – Chelsea Goodacre, 22; 2015 – Katiyana Mauga, 26; 2016 – Katiyana Mauga, 21; 2017 – Katiyana Mauga, 25).
Palomino was selected to first-team all-Pac-12 and all-NFCA West Region at the end of the regular season.
Sophomore Jessie Harper earned first-team All-American honors in 2017 as a freshman.
