Β The Arizona Wildcats cheerleader who was ejected from the game against ASU on Thursday night has become the talk of the college basketball world.
And fans have come to his defense, including one who created a White House petition to get him a scholarship.
The petition, as found on petitions.whitehouse.gov, is for a "Full Ride scholarship for Arizona cheerleader ejected from U of A vs. ASU game."
The person who created the petition, J.K., added "Starting a petition to get the Arizona cheerleader a full ride scholarship for getting ejected from the U of A vs ASU game on 2.15.18. Next level."
The petition has a few signatures to go to get a response from the White House.
It had seven signatures as of late Friday morning. It only needs 99,993 more to reach its 100,000 goal.
The cheerleader was ejected during the second half of Arizona's game vs. ASU on Thursday night for yelling into a megaphone during game play and calling out names.
Those are violations of Rule 10, Article 8 of the official referee handbook.
"He was yelling, using the (megaphone) to call out people by name, which is not acceptable. And he was asked to please stop, and he chose not to," said Randy McCaul, the referee who ejected the cheerleader.
The Arizona cheerleading team would not comment after the game, which Arizona won 77-70.
